What does Pii Nong mean?

We get this question a lot so let me explain here.

We first opened on Bayview as an authentic Thai eatery in late September of 2019 with a goal of serving this amazing Leaside/Davisville community. Thanks to the incredible support of our surrounding communities, our restaurant was welcomed, tested and enjoyed by many new patrons, foodies and neighbors. This support has been invaluable, and our team is so grateful – sharing delicious Thai food and creating a hospitable gathering spot for friends and family has been our dream.

It is no surprise that this past year has been extraordinarily tough on restaurants – the negative impact on a young restaurant like ours is especially profound. However, we are still operating and open today thanks in large part to our head chef, Chef Nana, who worked relentlessly throughout the most rampant COVID months to keep us afloat. Not only were we able to stay open, we were also able to serve over 300 meals to Sunnybrook’s frontline workers during the toughest months - something we feel so incredibly proud and humble to have accomplished. It has always been Chef Nana’s dream to have a restaurant named after her (the pipedream of someone who started off with a small street food stall in Thailand) and I felt this is only fitting after what she did to keep my dream alive, keeping our small family restaurant alive. As such we rebranded to Pii Nong, an identity we are so proud to adopt.
